However, given that the film's premise is taken from a book co-authored by paranormal radio talk show host Art Bell, the "science" is suspect at best. And the piss-poor script doesn't help any, as the characters are one-dimensional and the plot is ridiculous. Additionally, leads Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal are horribly miscast and have no charisma. Yet the special effects are quite impressive, and the disaster sequences are visually stunning.
